It’s started! They’ve emailed out the schedule for on-campus students to move in. Thanks to the pandemic, move-in has been spread out over four days this year. You know what that means? Four days of absolutely terrible traffic instead of just one! Isn’t it great?
Luckily for me, I get to miss that first day entirely. Instead I get to spend it driving 250 miles (~402 km), putting me back right after all the new people are free to start driving around at night. I see absolutely no way that traffic will somehow be worse then.

We’re hard at work here finishing up the last of our preparations for the start of the semester. Our fall leases have an effective date of August 15th, so we’re expecting to have people moving in throughout next weekend and into that Monday.
I’ve personally spent the last couple weeks trying to get contact information sorted out for everyone, so that we can actually mail out pertinent information before people get here. You’d be amazed at how hard it is to get people to fill out 2 columns in a spreadsheet that was supposed to have been completed years(!) ago. The letters have still managed to trickle out though, and I’m expecting them to start arriving within the next couple days.
With the last of our modifications for recruitment events and the transition to all-virtual meetings getting pinned down this week, there’s not much left to do besides rearrange furniture to encourage social distancing. Move-in is certainly going to be interesting this year.
